The Perfect Start To Every Day

I don’t know about you, but my day always starts with a cup of tea.  Regardless of the season, or my schedule, a cuppa is a must to get me on track for a busy day.  But did you know …..

·         The UK drinks 165 million cups of tea per day – that’s 62 billion cups per year!

·         The UK tea market is worth circa £700 million annually

·       The British East India Company started commercial tea production in the 1820s, planting a Chinese variety high in the hills of Darjeeling

·       The English fashion for tea drinking began in the early 18th Century, driven by the British East India Company, who imported tea to the UK

·        During WW2, the tea ration was just 2oz (50g) per person, per week!

and finally …..

The world is a far better place when you have a tea cosy!

Have a great day, and keep that kettle boiling!

So with that said I thought I would leave you with a little video on our lovely Dilly Dally Daisy kit.

But for now keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep felting :)

Princess Lily Takes Afternoon Tea

It’s a hard life, being a woolly Princess Lily, so what’s a lamb to do in order to re-charge those batteries?  Afternoon tea, of course!

The British tradition of afternoon tea began in the early 19th Century, when Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford took to having a pot of tea and a light snack, privately in her boudoir, to stave off “that sinking feeling” between meals.  Over time, the Duchess would invite friends to join her in her rooms at Woburn Abbey, and on returning to London, the Duchess continued to invite friends to join her for “tea and a walking the fields”.

As word spread of Anna’s afternoon tea sessions, hostesses in fashionable society soon copied the Duchess, with afternoon tea moving into Drawing Rooms, ever growing in their popularity.

Nowadays, traditional afternoon tea tends to be saved for high days and holidays, and regularly enjoyed by the thousands of tourists who want to experience a taste of true England – as well as our very own Princes Lily, of course!

The terms “high tea” and “low tea” derive from the height of the tables that the tea was served on, with high tea being served at the dinner table

  • A traditional Afternoon Tea at The Ritz Hotel in London starts at £45.00 per person

  • 80% of office workers now claim they find out more about what's going on at work over a cup of tea than in any other way

  • Tea contains half the amount of caffeine found in coffee.

  • Every year, the town of Fish Creek in Victoria, Australia, has its very own Tea Cosy Festival!  If you would like to try your hand at making your very own Tea Cosy, follow http://ow.ly/njDpn

New Product shoot for Kits, Courses and Handmade...

Hello lovely peeps... well what can I say other than I have been a busy, busy bee with so much going on over the last 12 months! I hardly know where to start.

Well after many, many positive and wonderful comments about my glorious felt kits, courses and handmade ranges... I also heard that my picture representations in other words my photos, just didn't show off how glorious the designs are in real life.

With that feed back and after 30+ years creating and 4 solid years designing the current range... I decided it was time for action! So I set too and enlisted the help of an amazing photographer. It makes such a huge difference to the representation of designs that I wondered why I didn't do it before.

So one sunny morning in late June the wonderful Sara Moseley AKA The Great Little Picture Company arrived with the larges camera and lens I have ever seen! With in a "flash" if you pardon the pun we were underway with the photo shoot. A little over an hour later we had the most wonderful collection of photos and within 24 hours they arrived electronically for me to use.

I have selected some of my favourites for you to peruse and many more can be viewed on the website and facebook page.

Introducing Regalily's Time for Afternoon Tea Tea Cosy Kit...

Gooooooood morning lovely makers, creators and all round lovely people! Today I thought I would give you the first peek at one of my brand new felt making kits.  Its regally inspired as you will probably guess from the title... and features 4 stunning roses, these rose are a brand spanking new rose design exclusive to Tigerlily Makes.  Designed by Lisa Marie Olson (that's me) AKA Miss Tigerlily and are a stunning and realistic representation of Miss Tigerlily's passion for all things floral.  The rose itself has been developed and designed to be made effectively and easily, so this makes it very unique not only in look but by the way it is constructed.

As many of you know Miss Tigerlily is a published and accredited paper crafts demonstrator and is well know for mixing paper and textiles together.  This particular rose has been adapted from an old paper craft technique that Miss Tigerlily Developed many years ago. So drawing on her previous years experience of both paper craft and textiles, Miss Tigerlily has breathed new life into this signature rose.

This is then combined with another Miss T passion and that is tea, so a tea cosy and very properly done roses are the perfect combination! Add to that the regency style stripe and you have all the makings of an afternoon tea delight.

This kit is not on the website just yet as my lovely web developer is hard at it, making all the changes for all the new kits we are currently launching! BUT you can email to order yours now info@tigerlilymakes.co.uk.

But for now keeeeeeeeeeep felting!

Messing around at Tea Time!

Morning everyone... so heres the first of the "Tea Time range and my first prototype... I have been working on a new range of tea cosy's amongst other things to try and improve on my painting with fibre skills!!

This was my first attempt at this kind of style and looking at it now, it could do with some improvement.  I am drawing a range of pictures which I aim to use as designs on my felted items so I have decided to practice a little more before releasing any for sale to the public.  On reflection I feel that the tea cup is not sculpted enough and not centered enough, but thats the great thing about fibre its trial and error.

Well back to it more preparation for my opening.

Tigerlily Makes The Felt-making Boutique is getting a shop sign...

Hi everyone, just thought I would give you all a sneek peak of the soon to be in place Boutique Sign.  Though I have to say organizing signage for the shop front has been quite a journey!!!  One sign company never bothered to turn up, another sign company produced the sign at such poor quality... that when I said that this wasn't acceptable he gave me a refund and told me to go elsewhere!!!

It astounds me that people can operate a business in this way with poor quality products and extremely  unprofessional service.

But alas Sheila from the The Pear Tree Creperie came to my rescue as her husband John from Sign Specialists got straight to work .  It was refreshingly reassuring when I received a site visit from John... something none of the other sign companies offered.

John was most helpful and reassured me that the resolution issues would be tackled.  Thanks John and thanks Sheila.
