Staffordshire Days Out - The Shugborough Estate
There are
many beautiful places to visit and sights
to see in Staffordshire, and the Shugborough Estate situated just 4 miles from
Stafford offers a wonderful day out, whatever your age!
It was a
very warm and sunny Bank Holiday Monday when we paid a visit to the Shugborough
Estate. The queue to get in snaked out
of the main entrance building and along the side of the road, but thankfully,
given that we are National Trust members (the property is jointly owned by the
NT and Staffordshire County Council) our membership cards were checked as we
queued and we were granted a speedy entrance via a side gate.
Wandering through
the estate grounds with the sun beaming high in the sky was an absolute
delight. Despite the crowded car park
and queue to get in, it didn’t actually seem that crowded. We walked as far as is possible within the
grounds, crossing over the river which was full of families splashing about
with the kids and a plethora of dogs.
After
treating ourselves to a sandwich from the on-site café –which we decided to eat
al fresco, sitting on the grass in the sun, it was time to look around the
magnificent Mansion House – a truly breath-taking building which has been
restored to give you a real taste of what life would have been like to live at
Shugborough in the 18th Century.
I think my
favourite aspect of the day was the Lord Lichfield exhibition and the insight
into the Lichfield Private Apartments – somewhat voyeuristic, yet a compelling
view into the life of one of our great artists, one almost expected him to pop
up and enquire as to whether you were having a good day!
For history
buffs, the servants quarters are not to be missed – with working staff located
around the kitchens, scullery and brew house you really do step back in time.
New for the 2013 season are the scarecrows and
their dressing up box, located within the walled garden. Great fun for kids of all ages (even those in
their 40s and beyond!) to rummage through the wooden dressing up box and add a
touch of glamour – or practicality – to the scarecrows on display.
The beauty
of Shugborough is that it changes with the months and seasons. I for one will be going back later on in the
year to see how the newly-planted vegetables have fared over the English summer
– and to sample some more delicious ice cream from the parlour!

Stop Press!!! Beautiful handmade gift from a talented designer…
Hello
lovely peeps, makers and creators.
Today I just simply have to share with you the wonderful work of the amazingly talented Skye German. For those of you who don’t know I am an accredited arts & crafts tutor and used to travel the country demonstrating a whole host of crafts and running workshops for a well know craft company. When I opened the felt boutique… I found I had a lot of surplus stash, tools and equipment.

When I opened the felt boutique… I found I had a lot of surplus stash, tools and equipment.
Not
wanting this to go to waste I set about selling my personal items on Ebay and
this believe it or not is how I met the amazing Skye German. Skye was the winning bidder for my craft
stash and we immediately struck a rapport via our email communications. That
chance meeting has led to a very special friendship that has been on-going for about
2 years now.
Skye is a wonderful person whom is a full
time carer and designs and creates wonderful things to sell around that. Skyes designs and creations are all very bespoke and unique and are
very popular with her audience.
Pictured
above is one of Skyes amazing designs
which she customised especially for me with my name on it! I immediately fell in love with it when I received it, and it now takes pride of place on our sofa.
I feel
so blessed and lucky to have met such wonderfully kind and generous friends in
my industry sector.

Boost Your Blog Course with the Great Little Picture Company
Well hello and a very warm, woolly and fully felted welcome to you all, on this fine Sunday afternoon!
Today I would like to share with you a fantastic course run by the Great Little Picture Company, its all about boosting your blog with relevant content and how to take good blog photos. I went to this just this morning, we started at 9am and had completed everything we needed to know by 12 noon.
The course is extremely well constructed and founder of GLPC Sara Moseley makes everything really easy and simple to follow, she is a very generous and patient tutor. Detailed course notes are provided for you as part of your course session and for you to take home and refer back to. Tea's and coffee were also provided and were in good supply.
With my new found knowledge, I couldn't wait to get back and put it into practice! So with a little over an hours worth of playing around with the settings on my camera, I feel I found that one good blog shot!
And here it is.
I would highly recommend this course to any blogger out there, knowing your camera and taking better photos is the key to an encapsulating read.

The Vintage Emporium - Wrapped Bagged and Tagged...
Hello and a very, very warm, woolly and fully felted welcome to the latest edition of the Tigerlily Makes Blog. Todays post is brought to you by Chief Feltrepreneur Lisa Marie Olson (that's just me! lol)
So I am very excited to be sharing with you today a lovely independent designer/maker team, The Vintage Emporium - Wrapped Bagged and Tagged who have recently purchased some of TM's lovely ethically sourced high quality felting wools! Buying felting wools is not an oddity in my business, but what is really special is what some of our lovely customers create with their woolly bundles.
Well I had Karen one half of this dynamic duo contact me about buying some wool, we exchanged info and a purchase of the bumper pack of wools was made, out it went and within less than a week Karen set to work on a bespoke vintage piece. So when Karen pointed me to her stunning work that she had created with the merino wool pack I just HAD!!! to share!
So I will leave you with her work pictured below, but do pop by her page and give her a like and a big cheery wave from me, you will not be disappointed and you can find all the info you need there.
But for now keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep felting!

Glorously Glorious Hand Felted Slippers made by Katherine on a lovely felt making day
Well hello and welcome lovely makers, creators and all round lovely people, today I have a very special share with you... I want to share a pair of hand felted slippers made by the lovely Katherine on a recent Tigerlily Makes felt slipper course.
Katherine has recently found a love of felting so has already enjoyed some of the benefits at home, but nonetheless wanted to give the art of felted slippers ago. As our slipper courses are very popular, I was in the position of getting extra requests for the course, so I decided to run a private slipper course from my home in the midlands. There were just 4 of us including myself and it was a brilliant day of lovely felting with wonderful company and beautifully finished slippers.
We had lots of my finished slipper samples on display for people to look at for inspiration, colour combinations and just general shapes so you can imagine the fun we had when we were all trying to decide shapes, finishing embellishments and colour combinations!
I have blogged previously about Shelly's and Sally's slippers, but now I can share with you the finished slippers by Katherine. Katherine is an amazing woman, she has a full time job, carer to hubby, good friend and all round crafty person. Katherine also suffers from joint problems that can be really painful and sometimes it can take a while for Katherine to finish her projects, but finish them she does and with great style.
So below is Katherine's finished pair, lovely colour combinations were chosen and Katherine went for one of my favourite styles the dolly shoe style, she then finished with some handmade flowers that were available to take with her on the day and accompanied them with this beautiful felted leaf duo that she made at home, which I think compliment the slippers beautifully. I have tended to add leaf detail to nearly every one of my felted projects and after seeing Katherine's leaves... I may well just have to take a leaf out of Katherine's book (if you pardon the pun) and add some leaf type detail to a pair of my slippers. But just take a look at these beauties for yourself.
But for now keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep felting!

Button it Buttons in perfect Partnership with Tigerlily Makes Felt Projects...
Hello and a very warm welcome to you all on this second blog post of the day, I just wanted to share a little follow up post to the one directly below this one. If you have taken a read of the post below you will know that I just adore Button It Buttons, so I thought I would share a few pics of them actually on my felted slippers.
These are the types of slippers that we make on our felt slipper course and they are beautifully finished with Button it Buttons. In fact there are so many different buttons to choose from and so many projects to be adorned with them that you won't be disappointed.
But for now keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep felting and of course buttoning up!

Buttons Buttons and more buttons for Button It...
Well hello and welcome everyone to the latest edition of the Tigerlily Makes blog, today I am very excited to be sharing a recent new find on the Isle of Lewis. A few years back I met a lovely lady over the internet and yes I know exactly how that sounds!! However I am a great believer in things happening for a reason, I was selling my ex demo equipment that I had bought over a number of years... as my creative journey had taken me into a different direction, back to my first love textiles. This is when I met Skye a lovely lady in the Isle of Lewis who is a full time carer and whom craft has brought no end of enjoyment and possibilities for her. We instantly struck up a friendship and we have been in touch ever since.
We have seen each other through some highs and some lows and we have really been on this creative journey together.
So when Skye having mastered a whole number of crafts, decided to combine her love of ceramic buttons with beautiful artwork it was the perfect partnership. The result is now her fabulously popular Button It page and a whole host of growing and developing gorgeous arty buttons.
So I confess!! I have fallen in love with Skyes Buttons and use them in my felt works, if I am being totally honest I have got a little/a lot addicted to them!! I know I am seeking help through Buttonaholics!
But they are so beautiful and so versatile that they can be used not only as buttons but for a whole host of projects. So I guess there's really nothing more to say, other than you must visit the page, you won't be disappointed and I will leave you with some examples of her buttons and my growing stash!

An Interview with Serendipity Candles, bringing glamour and ethical products together in harmony...
Good Morning lovely makers, creators and all round lovely people, todays
post is a little different. Today I thought I would share a recent interview
that I had the privilege of being involved in with the founder and creator of
the Handmade Boutique. As many of you
know I have been asked to join this talented chorus of designs and so asked the
founder to tell us her story and this is how it goes.
So firstly can I ask who you are and where you are?
A: My name is Tracie and my business is Serendipity Candles, I am also
the founder of Handmade Boutique which was initially set up as a 14 week Pop-Up
Shop last September in The Mailbox, Birmingham, housing 17 Midlands based
Designer makers. It was such a success that we are now opening again as a
permanent Boutique in July at The Great Western Arcade, Birmingham .
What is that you specifically do and when did you start?
A: I started making Soya Candles in Vintage crockery last year just for
myself as I love fragranced candles burning at home. A few of my friends asked
me to make some for them and so I looked into doing a Handmade Event to see how
they sold to the general public. I had such a great response with my first
event that it encouraged me to carry on making and developing the range to
create the business that I have now.
What would you say is uniquely different about what you do?
A: Serendipity Candles combine elegant vintage styling with beautifully scented soya wax candles to create that perfect gift for someone special or to add a touch of luxury to your home. I source the finest vintage china and glassware around to perfectly complement the long-lasting, lovingly produced candles.
Can you us more about the candles themselves?
A: Serendipity Candles are created from 100% natural soya wax which allows the scents of the natural fragrance oils to fill your home with a beautiful, pure aroma, all our Candles are hand poured. When the candle is finished, you’ll have the stunning container to use for many years to come.
I have worked hard to
develop my brand over the last 12 months and now have 17 stockists nationwide
which is very exciting. I look forward to sharing with you new developments and
opportunities as they come along. I will also be sharing with you the products
that will be featured in Handmade Boutique.

Bowdalicious Slippers and slippertastic slipper making courses.
Well hello there lovely makers, creators and all round lovely people! Today I thought I would share with you another pair of finished slipper samples following a recent slipper course... introducing Bowdalicious hand felted slippers.
The slipper course is one of my favourite courses I just love the end result and the fact that you can actually wear them too is most appealing... though I have to admit, I do like to make them just to have sat next to the fire or on the stairs as pretty decoration!
I also wanted to share with you a recent new find in the form of the handmade buttons that I have used to embellish and complete the look. These stunning buttons have been handmade by a lovely lady called Skye of Button It in the Isle of Lewis, not Isle of Skye as I blundered in my courses video blog below! Skye is a wonderfully creative lady and we met quite by accident and have been sharing our creations and working together ever since. Skye has a keen eye for colour, design and also has a little daring streak in her, by putting together combinations that are fun and quirky too. I will share more of her collection in the coming weeks as I now have rather a gorgeous stash and growing collection of Button It buttons.
But for now I will leave you with the finished slippers adorned with beautiful buttons and to say keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep felting :)

Featured Artist You Me & Lucia E at Flutterby Art Boutique...
Today we bring you yet another talented designer from the Flutterby Art Boutique at Curborough Craft and Antique Centre near Lichfield. The Boutique is run by the fabulous, bubbly and very lovable Kate Williams AKA Kate Flutterby Art Williams!
So todays post is all about a lovely lady who designs and creates the most adorable girls girls clothes and toys. This is Helens Story...
So todays post is all about a lovely lady who designs and creates the most adorable girls girls clothes and toys. This is Helens Story...
Helen is a full-time mummy to her beautiful daughter Lucia. Sewing has
run through her family for generations having learnt her craft from her mother.
She started making her daughter’s clothes and general items for around
the home but continues to expand her range. This is how “You, Me & Lucia E”
was created, to share Helen’s homemade items, principally sewn, but all
inspired by beautiful fabrics.
You may have seen Helen’s range of dollies, rabbits and rattles in a
local Lichfield boutique called Mooch Kids. All of her dollies and soft toys
are CE compliant and safe from birth. So there is real peace of mind that these
have been tested and are safe for your little ones to play with.
Helen only uses the finest quality cotton fabrics and 100% wool felt,
the detail is exquisite with hand embroidered facial features and
personalisation if requested. So these really do feel like a quality product
but at the same time unique and individual.
She also showcases at Flutterby Art Boutique and has a dedicated
Facebook page which sells these and other items such as little girl's dresses, pretty
bunting, children's bags, children's aprons and fabric notice boards.
She says of her new venture “I love what I do, it is a million miles
away from my previous career in the commercial banking industry, but I love the
creativity and freedom this affords me especially as it enables me to spend
quality time with my daughter”.
Here are a few images of just some of the stunning designs Helen creates :)
