Well a wonderfully warm, woolly and fully felted welcome to the latest edition of the Tigerlily Blog.

That product comes in the form of a handmade ceramic button made by the wonderfully talented Skye at Button It and... Tigerlily Makes original designs and artwork. This collaboration is a fusion of handmade made and original artwork and designs, it has created the perfect partnership between two passionate designers, to bring about a really unique overall design.
These collaborative buttons are exclusive to Tigerlily Makes and Button it... we are the only two authorised sellers in the UK. They are not available for wholesale and they are limited editions, which means that they are produced on very short runs and are collectors items.
We are launching 10 designs to start with... but there will be more.
The main collectors edition is the one pictured below Which is the Lily the Lamb range of buttons, these will have more Lily's dressed in gorgeous outfits over the coming months, so you may just want to bag yourself these designer beauties right from the outset as I have mentioned before they will not be mass produced.

Sweet Tooth Princess Lily & The Vintage Sweet Shop
On a trip to Lichfield recently, Princess Lily decided that she fancied
something sweet, so she headed straight for Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe in Bore Street.
Once inside this Aladdin’s Cave of sweet delights, Princess Lily was quite
literally spoilt for choice, and immediately sent back in time to when she was
a mere slip of a lass, and the plethora of traditional “sweets in jars” shops
that used to be the only place to buy your sweeties.
Who can fail to smile at memories of cola cubes, sherbet pips and pineapple
chunks – and the sore tongue that often followed after eating them! Hot summer days spent dipping an orange ice
lolly into sharp lemon sherbet crystals, the funny fizz of a packet of Space
Dust and the sheer joys (and frustrations) of trying to break a slab of treacle
toffee, without the aid of a toffee hammer!
For those of you who enjoy days out at places like the Black Country
Living Museum or Blists Hill Victorian Town in Ironbridge – it’s always the old
fashioned sweet shops with the longest queues, and it’s not always the children
queuing!
Forget buying multi-packs of mass-produced sweets. Instead, head to your nearest old fashioned
sweet shop and treat yourself to whatever takes your fancy. I bet you won’t stop at one bag either …….!
After buying a quarter of her favourite rhubarb and custards, Lily packed
her confectionary treasures into her handmade felt bag http://ow.ly/luEKM and bid farewell to Mr Simms and
his jars of sugary gems, until the next time!

Princess Lily Networks!
My regular readers will know that our very own beautiful Princess Lily The Lamb loves nothing better than getting out and about whenever the opportunity arises. She recently took a step away from her regular haunts of National Trust properties and country estates and embarked on her first ever business networking event!
On a warm, sunny Wednesday morning in the upstairs room of Lichfield’s
Spark Café Bar, 22 women and one Princess Lily gathered for the first meeting
of the Lichfield Women’s Business Brunch group – a newly formed networking
group which has been put together by several local business women following the
demise of a national networking club they all belonged to.
Lily looked very smart, sporting her brand new felty flower in her
fleece and she was pleased to see a very good turnout for the first meeting,
with a real buzz and lots of positive energy in the room – although at times
her sensitive lamb ears were overcome with the volume of all those ladies!
Lily was amazed at how powerful business networking can be. Just by listening to what was being said, she
learnt about 22 businesses, all local to Staffordshire and all run by
women! For some in the room it was their
first networking event, whilst others were old hands at giving their 60 second(ish)
pitch and extolling the virtues of their products or services.
Lily picked up some valuable tips, which she’d love to share here with
you.
- Don’t be nervous. Everyone experiences their first networking event at some point. Yes, it can be difficult talking in front of a room full of strangers but it will get easier over time
- Be yourself. People buy from people and the best way to sell your business is to act naturally and get to know others in the room
- Take lots of business cards! It may sound obvious but you’d be amazed at how many people go to a networking event without any ….
- Think before you speak. Sometimes nerves can make us talk faster which makes it harder for others to understand what we’re saying. Take a deep breath, stand up straight, shoulders back, chest out ……. and tell the room how great your business is!
- Respect the timings given. Most networking groups give members 60 seconds to present their “elevator pitch”. This doesn’t mean that you can talk for 10 minutes.
- Have an idea of what you want to achieve from the networking meeting before you even arrive at the venue. Are you looking for new business within a certain sector? Are you looking for someone who can help you with your business, such as an Accountant or VA? Being prepared will be far more productive that “winging it”.
- After the event has finished, remember those follow-ups. Too many of us are guilty of promising to connect and then never making that call or sending that email. Following-up is the key to successful networking.

Something For Everyone In Ironbridge
Just a ten minute drive from the M54 sits a wonderland so integral to
the industrial revolution yet so pretty and quaint with a laid-back ambiance all
of its own.
Welcome to Ironbridge!
Our day out begins at the Blists Hill Victorian Town, and our first
head-scratcher of the day – exchanging our 21st Century pounds into
Victoria pounds, shillings and pence.
Strangely enough, there isn’t an iPhone app to help us so we have to
rely on good old-fashioned brain power (together with the conversion tables in
many of the shops!) It really is like
stepping back in time, with the Victorian characters going about their daily
business. It doesn’t feel like a museum –
although we are learning so much as we make our way through the 52 acre
site. Oh yes, flat shoes are a
must! Having worked up an appetite, we
treat ourselves to some “real” ice cream before heading off to our next
destination – the Museum of Iron.
And so we find ourselves at the Museum Of Iron in Coalbridge, a true
homage to the early days of the iron industry and Quaker, Abraham Darby, the man
who developed blast furnacing, which was so important to the industrial
revolution. The gift shop sells some
beautiful cast-iron kitchen accessories – yes, cast iron CAN be beautiful! Cookery book stands, kitchen towel holders,
spoon rests and door stops are all hard to resist but you may want to buy them
at the end of your visit and put them straight in the car – cast iron is very
heavy to carry around!
Just around the corner from the Museum of Iron is Enginuity; a
scientific playground for children of all ages …… yes, even those of us who left
school in the 1980s! Here we used a
pully to pull a steam train engine, we got wet trying to figure out how to turn
water into electricity and we saw the insides of many everyday objects with the
brilliant giant x-ray machine. We also loved the scan and learn terminals,
where you can pick a nearby object, scan it with your own scanning
hand-terminal and learn more about it.
Absolutely brilliant!
Our final stop of the day was the Darby Houses, also located at
Coalbridge. A five minute uphill walk
from the Coalbridge car park (the views are stunning, by the way - see below!) takes you to the Darby Houses, where the rooms
have been recreated and set back to the
time when the Darby family inhabited them.
And who said historical houses can be dull? The final room in the main house is devoted
to the art of dressing up! Hats adorn
tables, and grand dresses for the ladies and frock coats for the chaps
await! Don’t be shy – they’re there for
a reason! The curators within the house
will even help you into the costumes and let you have your pictures taken in
the grand kitchen – so much fun!
Sadly, we ran out of time to explore the main centre of Ironbridge but
I am confident that the many gorgeous boutiques and artisan cafes will receive
our patronage later on in the summer months when we go back to this beautiful
Shropshire gem called Ironbridge.
